Rotation Highlights
The Northern/HEENE training programmeincludes rotations across the North East and Cumbria. The area includes two Major Trauma Centres and a Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Service, and the training programme offers rotations in all Orthopaedicsub-specialties. The region has many enthusiastic and excellent trainers, and the deanery consistently scores highly in the National Training Survey. All trainees are employed continuously through the Lead Employer Trust, avoiding changes in employer at every rotation.
The weekly regional teaching programme is consultant led and alsoinvites expert guest speakers from other regions. The programme is continually reviewed and developed by the OrthNorth Teaching and Education Association. ST3s receive specialist cadaver lab training over 4 separate days in their first year, and for senior trainees there is a clinical and viva course in preparation for the exam.
There are multiple research opportunities within the region, both within training and for trainees wishing to take time Out Of Programme. There is a well establishedtrainee research collaborative in the form of CORNET which has led high quality research across the region and allows coordination of larger scale projects.
Beyond the training programme, the Northern region has much to offer with many great cities and the wilderness of the coast, Northumberland, County Durham, North Yorkshire and the Lake District.
