Rotation Highlights
Liverpool has a prominent and celebrated orthopaedic history and has produced a number offamed surgeons, making Mersey an excellent choice of deanery for anyone considering applying through the national selection programme. The deanery has a large cohort of trainees who are fortunate enough to rotate through multiple specialist centres, including the world-renowned Alder Hey children's hospital.
We pride ourselves on our intensive teaching and educational programme, which has ensured the continuous success of all trainees to date and is reflected through our ongoing national ranking in relation to the annual UKITE examination. In addition, we are well-known for our academic credentials and are a hub for major research and national clinical trials.
As a deanery, we are a tightly-knit and supportive cohort, with a fantastic TPD and an outstanding consultant body, who are actively involved in both academic and social activities within the region. Our trainees take advantage of all that the region has to offer, especially our monthly social dinners, organised by the '58 Society, one of the oldest orthopaedic societies.
The vibrant city boasts major landmarks including the Albert Dock and the Liver Buildings, which has only recently been transformed to Gotham City, for the upcoming Batman movie. For music fans, we have The Beatles. For sports fans, the city is home to two of the Premiership’s biggest football teams, Liverpool Football Club at Anfield and Everton Football Club at GoodisonPark. And if that wasn't enough, there is also the famous Aintree and Chester Racecourses. What more could you ask for?!
ABOUT THE REP
Ross McAllister
Hi! I’m Ross and I am currently an ST5 in the Mersey deanery. I have been a trainee in the deanery since my core training years and I’m delighted to be able to represent Mersey on the national stage with BOTA. It is a fantastic region that provides exceptional training and a wonderful community. My particular interests are in improving the quality of surgical education and I am very happy to be contacted with any questions about the deanery or anything else that I can help with!
