Joint arthroplasty has become common place and the number of primary hip and knee replacements performed will continue to rise as the population ages. The presence of osteoporosis and the inevitable osteolysis around primary joint arthroplasties would lead to an increased incidence of fractures around hip or knee prosthesis, which are technically demanding to treat, requiring both the skills of trauma surgery and those of revision arthroplasty. This two day course will focus on the principles governing the management of periprosthetic fractures around hip and knee arthroplasties. An integrated approach to implant selection and treatment options of different fracture patterns is provided by a faculty of experts. In addition to lectures and hands on practicals, interactive sessions foresee the discussion of clinical cases and their optimal management.
