I am extremely passionate in supporting the rights of all colleagues and staff. I firmly believe the more diverse our specialty is, the better it will become to work in and having a diverse range of voices will improve our practice.
Having worked since my medical school days as a representative for students, junior doctors and now registrars (and the occasional consultant) to help, support and defend their ability to practice regardless of their background I have a good level of experience in managing issues that can arise and knowing where to direct people for the appropriate support and help.
There is evidence that certain subgroups of trainees who join orthopaedics are less likely to complete training and I would like to change that statistic and that orthopaedics is an outlier that lags behind general surgical and other non surgical fields. I would like to work to change that statistic.
