Yael Gelfer

Yael Gelfer is the Consultant Culture and Diversity BOA Champion for London.

She is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at St George’s Hospitals NHS foundation Trust and a Teaching Program Director at South Thames Foundation School. Yael is passionate about supporting students and trainees of all levels through mentoring, inclusion, and collaborations. Yael has given talks and participated in several Diversity and Inclusion events.  She co-designed and developed a Women in Surgery mentoring scheme aimed at medical students contemplating a career in surgery. A part of her role as Culture and Diversity Champion for London currently includes setting up a mentoring scheme for Trauma and Orthopaedic female trainees who can benefit from a role model and a mentor to improve their training experience as well as the chance of a successful completion of training. Outside of work, Yael enjoys traveling, family time and exercise.
